Does every smartcard reader work with a UZI card or eID?
Yes, the built-in smartcard readers in the business Lenovo ThinkPads (and comparable business lines) that we offer support the universal ISO 7816 standard. This is the technology required for reading both the UZI card and the eID. Of course you still need to install the specific software (middleware such as SafeSign) of your organization.
Can I install a smartcard reader in my current laptop afterwards?
No, that is virtually impossible. The casing (the chassis) and the motherboard of a laptop must be specially designed at the factory to house a smartcard reader. Doesn't your current laptop have one? Then it's best to purchase a refurbished laptop that does have one, or use a separate (external) USB reader.
